VFP Helps Gray Construction Swing for a Cure for ALS
Each year Gray Construction's Patrick McCowan, project director, hosts the Annual Albert B. McCowan "Swing for A Cure for ALS" Memorial Golf Scramble and Silent Auction in Lexington, Ky. in memory of his late father. Patrick's father passed away in 2011 of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), better known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Held on June 4, 2016, this year marked its 5th event.
Individuals and organizations are invited to support the event in a number of ways, including participating in the scramble, sponsoring a hole, donating or purchasing items from the silent auction, making a monetary contribution or simply showing up to support the cause! This year, VFP Fire Systems sponsored a hole at the gold level. More than 100 people were in attendance, helping raise over $21,500. Proceeds from the event were donated to the ALS Association.
ALS is a rapidly progressive, fatal neurological disease that causes dysfunction of the nerves that control muscle movement. It attacks both upper and lower motor nerve cells (neurons), causing deterioration throughout the brain and spinal cord.
Every 90 minutes someone is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person loses their battle with this deadly disease. The cause of ALS is unknown, nor is it treatable. Research continues in hopes of discovering a source and a cure.
The 6th annual Albert B. McCowan "Swing for a Cure for ALS" Memorial Golf Scramble will take place on Saturday, June 3, 2017. For more information, please contact Patrick McCowan at [email protected].
"My family and I would like to extend one last 'thank you' for everyone that not only sponsored this memorial, in some fashion, but also those golfers that braved the elements to make is a successful day… Looking forward to seeing what 2017 brings!" -Patrick McCowan, project director, Gray Construction
